Overview:
After securing a crucial away win in Italy, Bayern Munich can now afford to sit back and play on the counter attack strategy that would definitely suit the home side. Bayern Munich recent form has been fairly inconsistent. After two back to back losses in the league, Bayern went on to hammer Hamburg 6-0 on the weekend and confidence would be high in the home camp.

As for Inter, since the departure of Rafa Benitez, Inter Milan has slowly move up the leader board in Seria A and are getting decent results. Despite putting in better performance, it is a tall order for Leonardo’s side to secure a result here and see them progress.

Van Gaal has a full team to select from apart from Olic. As for Leonardo, Lucio and Cambiaso are both doubtful for the game while Milito and Samuel are out injured. In addition Pazzini is cup-tied for this game.

Van Gaal is likely to play with his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation. With Inter having to push for the away goal, Robben, Ribery and Muller would have plenty of space to exploit and given the pace all three players have, Inter are almost bound to struggle. On top of that, Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery are in good form, which even makes it more difficult for Inter.

Leonardo is likely to play with a 4-4-2 diamond heart formation or a 4-2-3-1 formation. The diamond heart formation in my opinion would not work against this Bayern line up as most of Bayern’s threat would come from the flanks and Robben and Ribery would have plenty of space to work on. Therefore a 4-2-3-1 formation would definitely be the better option. However, with Inter not having any out an out wingers and the lack of pace in central midfield and in defense, it would be interesting to see how will Leonardo line up his players.
Verdict:
Inter did beat Bayern in the Champions League final last season but things are different now. Inter are no longer under the guidance of Jose Mourinho and Frank Ribery and Arjen Roben are both in form and fit.

As we all know, Italian teams are well known for sitting back and protecting their lead. With Inter having to chase this game, Bayern are certain to have the upper hand. Muller demonstrated in the World Cup that he has the pace and vision to set players up as well as scoring. On the other hand, we all know what Robben and Ribery are made off. Inter does not have fast players especially in defense and they are likely to see trouble as soon as the trio of Robben, Ribery and Muller has space to run on or is one on one verses a defender.

Home support would have to be another factor in this game. Therefore if you combine the tactical line, form and home support, my money is on the home side not to lose the game. Many fear that this game might end up in a draw but, Inter would have to go for the game, therefore this is a do or die situation for Inter. In my opinion, chances of Inter making it are rather slim.
